Sympathy Over Bin Laden's Death?

Since 2001, mastermind of the September 11terrorist attack, Osama bin
Laden, has been U.S.'smost wanted man. On May 1, 2011,four U.S. Special
Forces helicopterslaunched a sudden raid on a villaoutside the capital of
Pakistan, and killed bin Laden.Bin Laden's death ignited heated talks in
China.Experts point out that this major event affectsthe world pattern,
marking the end of all dictators.

U.S. President Barack Obama said all peoplethat believe in peace and human
dignityshould cheer the death of Osama bin Laden.Former U.S. President
George. W Bush saidthat the U.S. sent a clear message:"No matter how long
it takes, justice will be done."

French President Nicolas Sarkozy,German Chancellor Angela Merkel andRussian
president Dmitry Medvedevall expressed relief upon the death of Bin
Laden.British Prime Minister David Cameron expressedhis thanks to Obama,
but warned that the deathof bin Laden does not mean the end of terrorism.

Commentator Cao Changqing: "Bin Laden is thesymbolic figure of global
terrorism. His deathis likely to lead to the decline and even collapseof
global terrorism. It has a significant impacton the global strategic
pattern."

United Nations Security Council issued a statementsaying this is decisive
progress in the global fightagainst terrorism. UN Secretary-GeneralBan
Ki-moon announced that bin Laden's deathis a key turning point in the
global war on terror.

Former Chinese Broadcasting director of RFI(Radio France International), Wu
Baozhang said:"I think this is a major event affecting thepolitical
situation around the world. The U.S. killedbin Laden and will gradually
withdraw troopsfrom Afghanistan and Iraq. The U.S. will thenbe free to
solve problems elsewhere in the world. At present the situation in Arab
countries has shownthe future direction of the world."

Xia Ming, Professor of political science atCity University of New York,
expressed thatyoung people in Arab countries want peace anddemocracy, which
in itself is to abandon violencerepresented by bin Laden and al-Qaeda.

Xia Ming (Professor of political science at CUNY):"Bin Laden's use of
violence for 30+ years did notbring any significant change to the Arab
world. It put the Arab world into even greater disaster. The new generation
of Arab people have mademuch greater achievements through
non-violentJasmine Revolutions or color revolutions."

Chinese Foreign Ministry stated on May 2,that bin Laden's death is an
important eventand a positive progress in the international fightagainst
terrorism. But Chinese Communist Party's(CCP) media publicly showed
sympathy,in addition to misleading public opinion.

Cao Changqing (Commentator): "CCP has beenusing bin Laden and terrorism as
a play cardto deal with the U.S. When the U.S. fight againstterrorism, it
needs China's cooperation and support,so the U.S. had to make some
compromisesand concessions. Now this play card is gone, thus reducing CCP's
ability to bargain. This is good news for the free worldrepresented by the
U.S. and the West."

Bin Laden's death became a hot topic in forumsin China. Many netizens
cheered, while someregard him as "a martyr against U.S. hegemony."Netizens
said: "Bin Laden is nothingcompared to CCP's state terrorism.""Now the U.S.
can free itself to deal with CCP."

Chinese freelance writer Meng Zhao pointed outthat bin Laden's death is a
warning to the CCP:"Any enemy of the civilized world, no matter howcunning
it is, ultimately cannot escape justiceand punishment! People are more
confident thattotalitarianism will be buried in the 21st centuryand
dictators will be sent to the gallows."

China Interim Government spokesman,Tang Baiqiao said bin Laden's death will
greatlyencourage Chinese people, especially their pursuitof justice and
democracy. It will play a huge roleparticularly in democratic revolutions
in China. So history will turn a new page.
